Focus on Apprenticeships Secures Awards for Consilium Technical Services

Birmingham-based Consilium Technical Services has been named West Midlands SME Employer of the Year in the recent National Apprenticeship Awards.

Consilium TS provides Temporary Traffic Management design and CAD services across the UK. It was recognised for its commitment to providing employment and career development opportunities to a number of young apprentices.

“We are delighted to receive this award,” comments Daryl Gordon, Managing Director, Consilium TS.

“Our apprenticeship programme is a key part of our recruitment and retention process. Through it we have employed a number of excellent young employees who have brought enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn to Consilium TS. In turn, we have given them a structured apprenticeship programme which balances practical experience with ongoing formal education. For a small business like Consilium TS, it is a formula which is working exceptionally well for both us as an employer and our apprentices.”

Consilium TS currently employ three apprentices with plans to expand the programme and provide additional apprenticeship opportunities to more young people.

Michael Lysaght, Consilium TS, Business Compliance Manager, has played a key role in developing the apprenticeship scheme and supporting the apprentices, adds:

“I started my career as an apprentice so I’ve always been an ardent advocate for the apprenticeship pathway to a long-term career. The benefits are unquestionable for both an employer and the apprentice. The employer gets loyalty and a genuine desire to learn from apprentices while they are earning as they are learning. It’s a win-win for everyone. We have three excellent young employees working with us who are excelling and will undoubtedly have long-term careers in the traffic management industry. I am delighted that Consilium TS has been honoured with this award and immensely proud of the work we are doing to promote and support apprenticeships.”

Having won the West Midlands Regional Award, Consilium TS will travel to London in November where they will compete for the National title.
